Ophthalmology’s new web site. Founded in 1916, the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States. The mission of the ABO is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a certification and maintenance of certification process that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning. Certification March 27, 2007 Written Qualifying Examination The WQE will be administered on March 27, 2007 at approximately 300 nationally-distributed Prometric testing centers. Approved candidates will receive a scheduling permit in January immediately preceding the examination. Candidates will use the scheduling permit to schedule an examination appointment at a Prometric test center. The exam is administered on one day in an approximately five-hour and 15-minute testing period, this includes a tutorial (up to 15 minutes), followed by five 54-minute test blocks and 20 minutes of optional break time.
